New Orleans Experiential Learning: Day 6

June 7, 2024

By Grace Condinho

Today we began our day by going to Grace at the Greenlight at 6:00 AM to help serve breakfast to the homeless population. We were able to see firsthand the impact that different volunteer groups have on the community as well as some ways to help those in need. It was important for us to experience this and have an understanding of what many people have gone through so that we can understand why places with larger populations of unhoused people have to work much harder for things like evacuations and sheltering.

We then stopped for a quick breakfast at Slim Goodies before heading to the World War II Museum. When we arrived at 10:00, we viewed a film called Beyond All Boundaries. This is a 4-D film so we were able to get the full experience of what was being shown including old footage, newsclips, personal stories, and more. Once the film was over we had time to explore the many different parts of the museum. These buildings were full of information about each part of the war as well as many uniforms, personal belongings, aircraft, firearms, and other real life artifacts.

When we were done going through all 6 buildings at the museum, we had some free time where we decided to go to lunch at a clean eating restaurant called True Food Kitchen and visited some antique and thrift stores on Magazine Street. We met back up at Tulane for a group dinner at Company Burger.
